My name is Zoltán Somogyvári. I have been working with people for 15 years. As a lawyer, educator and mental health professional.

I have been accompanying individual clients on their journeys of life challenges and developing their self-knowledge for five years.

Please read what I consider important, and if something speaks to you and you would like to get to know yourself better, contact me at dr.somogyvari.zoltan@gmail.com.

Principles

Empathy

One of the foundations of our work together is empathy. This means that I try to understand the way you see and experience the world to the best of my ability and without judgment. It is important to me that you feel that your thoughts and feelings are valid and that they are being listened to. You can also count on me to understand you even when you share your most shameful life events. You are safe with me even if you have experienced trauma. I have worked with refugees and victims of law enforcement violence for 15 years as a lawyer, so I know what it does to people to be survivors of torture, rape, or other inhumane treatment. I will help you to build a more liberated life in a trauma-sensitive way.

Holding

The space in which we talk serves you to safely express what is difficult, confusing, or painful. In our relationship, you can experience your feelings such as anger, fear, anxiety, disgust, hopelessness, loneliness, and their negative relatives without shame or suppression. You don't have to rush, you don't have to be ready, it’s enough if you come as you are. Your emotions fit here, and you don't have to carry them alone.

Confronting yourself

One of the methods I work with is mirroring. I will try to read between your lines and listen to the content between your words. I will also try to tune in to you and reflect the feelings you have as best I can. All of this creates an opportunity to confront yourself. This is not always an easy process, it often requires courage, but it is also the basis for change. Step by step, we can look at what is going on inside you, what you carry with you, and how you can get closer to yourself, with greater understanding and acceptance.

If you confront yourself and your past, you will see that the way you acted was the only way you could have acted. Maybe you could have done something differently, but you didn't. Others also surely could have treated you differently. However, things happened the way they happened. This is our starting point. And confronting yourself is the leap forward, across the bridge of the unconscious into the conscious present. I won't force you to confront yourself. I'll leave the timing and amount up to you.

Justice

I see the world as a place that, for all its wonders, is also full of injustice, inequality and suffering.

I hold that this does not have to be the case. As human beings, we have the ability to change our relationships.

I believe that it is better to start the change not with others, but with ourselves. A more just world is possible when we take responsibility for ourselves, for our relationships with others and with our environment.

Because of justice, it is important to me to be able to provide you with a safe environment even if you are not one of the most supported members of society. Whether because you are a woman, a refugee, an immigrant, or because you are a member of the LGBTQI community. Or because you or a Muslim, a Christian, a Hindu, or a follower of any other faith.

My view of humans

I accept and continuously learn from the evidence-based achievements of science. According to which our instincts make us related to animals. With all the advantages and disadvantages of this. According to my view of humanity, we are biologically determined, but spiritually limitless.
